How Kutani Ware is Made - Shaping: Round shapes are created using a potter's wheel, while more complex shapes like square items and figurines are hand-formed. - Bisque Firing: Firing at around 800 degrees for 8 hours turns the clay a skin color. It is then fired in a main kiln at over 1300 degrees for more than 15 hours. - Overglaze Painting: After outlining with gosu, colors are applied using traditional Japanese paints.
