Cold Forging for High Precision and Wear Resistance

Cold forging shapes material using dies at room temperature, without applying heat. Compared to hot forging, which shapes heated material, this process delivers greater precision and better wear resistance. It places significant stress on both the dies and the material, demanding skill, care, and experience at every stage—but MKS produces all of its pedal spindles, the heart of any pedal, through in-house cold forging. The result is a pedal with excellent rotational performance and outstanding durability.

Quality Control Through In-House Heat Treatment

Heat treatment hardens the material to improve wear resistance, tensile strength, and fatigue strength. Mikashima Seisakusho maintains its own furnaces for quenching and tempering, keeping quality control in-house. This produces a durable pedal spindle with a hard surface and a resilient core. Beyond the spindle itself, structural components such as cups and cone bearings are also manufactured and heat-treated in-house, ensuring rigorous, high-level control over precision and durability across the entire product.

Assembly Expertise Built Since Our Founding in 1949

Mikashima Seisakusho / MKS Pedals has been making pedals since 1949, and continues to insist on Japanese production today, drawing on decades of accumulated expertise. Our top-tier NJS-certified pedals are hand-assembled one by one, adjusted using ultra-thin spacers precise to within 3/100mm, achieving smooth, seemingly endless rotation. For other products, we use in-house-developed dedicated assembly machines that automatically inject grease and assemble components, maintaining consistent quality through thorough process control—while every pedal still undergoes final adjustment and inspection by hand.
