■ Nyoirin Kannon Bodhisattva - Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva who saves people from suffering and grants all wishes. "Nyoi" refers to the jewel called Nyoihoju, which brings wisdom, wealth, and good fortune at will, and "rin" refers to the Dharma wheel that destroys worldly desires. Kannon Bodhisattva holds these two in his hands, so he is called Nyoirin Kannon. Counted as one of the Six Kannon, he is said to save people who are lost in the path of heaven, but it is also said that his six hands extend a helping hand to all six paths. Although he was the last of the Henge Kannon to appear, faith in him spread from the Nara period, and he has been believed to protect people from disasters and illnesses. This Buddha statue is usually one-faced and six-armed, and on a lotus pedestal, he is in a rare position, with his right knee raised and the soles of his feet together, called the Wheel Throne. In addition to the Nyoihoju and Dharma wheel from which he is named, the most typical items he holds are lotuses. The first hand on the right is touching his cheek in contemplation, as if he is thinking about how to save all living beings. Originally, this statue was made in esoteric Buddhism, and is said to have been brought to Japan by Kobo Daishi in the early Heian period.
