Instruction:
The AS5048A is a 14-bit rotate position sensor (formerly known as an encoder) that provides full 360° angle measurement and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) output based on non-contacts magnetic sensor technology. This device is suitable for shaft applications where a simple two-pole magnet rotates above or below the sensor IC, and the zero position can be programmed into the device using simple SPI commands. It features a magnetic angular position resolution of 14 bits, enabling 16,384 position measurements per revolution, with digital values accessible via a serial peripheral interface (SPI).
The AS5048 offers PWM output along with SPI or I2C interfaces to provide angle measurements to a microcontroller. During mechanical design, there is no need to consider the initial zero position of the chip or the pairing of the magnetic poles of the magnet used. Instead, the zero position can be programmed into the internal memory of the AS5048 during assembly using simple SPI or I2C commands, eliminating the need for special programming equipment.
The AS5048 also exhibits exceptionally high operational tolerances, including positional deviations between the chip and the paired magnet, air clearance variations between the chip and the magnet, and temperature fluctuations ranging from -40°C to +150°C.
Its 14-bit measurement analog front-end provides a measurement resolution of 0.0219 degrees. Through linearization and averaging processing by a microcontroller, an angular measurement accuracy of up to 0.05 degrees can be achieved.
