Domestic Kiso Hinoki Chopsticks 5-Pair Set Natural Lacquer Coating (Lacquered (Brown))

This is Kiso hinoki that has grown for a longer period than typical Kiso hinoki. Although it is coated with lacquer, it has a very fragrant and soothing aroma. Being natural wood, it can warp, but I have found that this Kiso hinoki is particularly resistant to warping. Please refrain from soaking it for extended periods. The Kiso hinoki material has been carefully managed since the Edo period, with the saying "one branch, one arm; one tree, one neck" reflecting the importance placed on the mountains. The high-quality lacquer is applied to penetrate the wood, and since it uses solid, high-grade Kiso hinoki with straight grain, it is unlikely to warp or lose its finish even when placed in a dishwasher. In my experience of using it in the dishwasher 1 to 3 times daily over the course of a year, the overall dark brown color has slightly faded, which is a characteristic of lacquer becoming translucent over time. After another six months, the wood part became visible at the tip of the chopsticks.
