FineMolds 1/72 Aircraft Series Imperial Japanese Navy Type 12 Carrier Fighter Plastic Model Kit FR03 The Type 12 Carrier Fighter No. 1 and No. 2, prototypes of the Zero Fighter, are most notably equipped with the Mitsubishi Zuisei engine (rather than the Sakae engine that would later become the heart of the Zero Fighter) and feature a two-bladed propeller. Furthermore, they possess numerous details that set them apart from the officially adopted Zero Fighter. From the slightly shorter fuselage, unique cowling shape, forward-sloping antenna mast, different vertical stabilizer contours, fins mounted on the rear underside of the fuselage, and horizontal stabilizers with protruding mass balances, the distinctive features of this prototype are evident in every detail. This kit meticulously reproduces the details of the Type 12 Carrier Fighter No. 2, which differs from the Zero Fighter. Displaying it alongside a Zero Fighter allows for a visual comparison that clearly shows the differences in the development process.
